Hi Has anyone travelled by plane with humira, We are going away for 2 weeks, I am thinking of trying a cold pack called Frio it is used for keeping insulin injections cold. When I spoke to a pharmacist from Healthcare at home he said that they had not done a trial yet and could not say that the humira would not be harmed.[/size][/size] have any of you had any experience of taking humira away with you and MTX injections. best wishes Tricia life is too important to be taken seriously Oscar Wilde

Hi Tricia, I`m on humira - for almost 3 years now - and generally I try to juggle my injections so that I avoid having to take it with me, but I`m pretty sure someone on the forum will have travelled with it, and hope they can give you some advice. Have you tried asking your rheumy nurse? Kathleen x

I haven't travelled abroad with it, only in this country. I ask the receptionist to put it in their fridge if there isn't on in the room.

Hi i will ask my rheumy nurse when I see her next she has been ill herself and my appointments keep moving. We are going to be on the plane for 8.5 hours plus the time at the airport before and I don't fancy altering my dates we are away for the 2 weeks mind you by July things might have changed any way. Hi, When I was on Humira, I travelled to the south of France by air. I took my injections in a small cool-bag with an ice block. I had a letter from my doctor to show them at the departure check and all was perfectly ok. When I got to my accommodation, I transferred the Humira into the fridge. I don't know how long your flight is, but if you asked the flight staff, they would probably put the ice block in their freezer for you, although as long as you don't keep opening the bag and don't leave it in the sun, it should last for 5/6 hours. Just for the record! When I went to the Algarve two years ago Jet2 would not allow me onto the aircraft with my cool bag, ice pack and Enbrel injections despite having a letter from Healthcare at Home. I was happy to open up the package for them to see but it was a definite "no". They could go in the hold (far too cold) but not on the plane. I didn't used to have this problem when the needles came separately packaged as they went in a suitcase and I was only carrying the powdered drug on board the plane. Last year with EasyJet no problem! Seems a bit hit and miss for us RA patients but if you're diabetic you're welcomed no problem! I did write to Jet2 after no response by phone but got nowhere except "it is the policy of our company ... you have accepted our terms and conditions..." etc.. Lyn x

Hi
when I was on Humira we went to America that was a 9 hour flight
we packet the Humira with an ice rack also when we were on the flight I asked for ice cubes which were put into a plastic bag
the humira was ok we put it straight into the frige when we got to our rooms
you will also need a letter from your speclist to say what the injection is for

Hi Tricia,
Last April I travelled to South Africa with two doses of Humira.
I had to provide the airport security / customs with a letter from the doctor confirming that this was prescribed medication and needed to be keep cold. I packed my two pens in bubblewrap inside a small cooler bag with two freezer blocks on either side. Once I reached my destination, I put both back into the fridge. Healthcare at Home told me that you could only do this once per pen. In other words, once you've taken it out of the fridge and put it back in again, you couldn't take it out for a second time. This means basically, that you need to be spending the whole holiday in the same place so the pens don't need transporting a second time.
I had no trouble with security, customs or airline staff but spent the whole flight panicing that I'd leave the bag on the plane!

I have travelled many times with Humira, both the injections and the pen. I have never had any trouble taking them onto a plane and use a cooler like other people have suggested, the staff have always been very willing to put the cooler in their ice for long haul flights. I often move about a lot when I travel,and do not always stay in places with a fridge, so I invested in a super travel fridge to keep mine cold. The link is below. It has a plug to use it in a car lighter socket so if you have a long car journey in hot weather it is ideal. It also has a US and EU plug. http://www.medi-fridge.com/
I bought the Frio and did some temperature tests but I was not happy that it would do the job properly. It keeps it cooler than air temperature if it is hot outside but it was not always in the range recommended, that was why I bought the micro-refrigerator.
